MISCELLANEOUS
Ring Sizes- Very Important!!
Inlay rings are difficult to size without damaging the inlay. If you need the ring in a size other than the size listed on the item, a new matching ring will be custom made in your finger size. We have done this for 40 plus years with no complaints about the accuracy of the match. It is very important that you give us your correct size when ordering as it is difficult to adjust the size without using a laser welder and risking damage to the ring. No guessing! The paper finger sizers you might find on the internet and print out are not accurate. We have experimented and found that they vary from 1/4 to 3/4 of a size in error. Please visit a local jeweler and get your finger sized properly. Ask to use a sizer that is a similar width to the ring you are interested in purchasing. Special order and made to order size rings are NOT RETURNABLE. If you are giving the ring as a gift and do not know the size needed, we suggest purchasing the stock ring for presentation and visiting a jeweler to get sized asap. Then order the ring in the special order size and return the stock ring for matching the stones. Please notify us if the ring is a gift and you might be returning it for another size so we can have the materials ready to speed up the process of making a new one.
Reaction to Copper in Sterling Silver
Sterling silver contains some copper in the part of the metal that is not pure silver. The copper in the sterling silver may react with your body chemistry and turn your finger green, or in some cases black, where the ring contacts the skin. Our inlay rings are not rhodium plated like some silver jewelry. If you have a tendency to react to silver you should consider ordering our silver jewelry in stainless steel or our highly recommended tarnish resistant Continuum sterling silver. Please understand that we have no way of knowing if you are part of the small percentage of the population that could experience the "green finger" reaction. We do not accept special order ring size returns due to a copper reaction. Should this occur a simple fix is to paint the inside of the ring with clear nail polish to create a barrier between your skin and the silver. Reapply as needed.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR OUR LAB OPAL INLAY JEWELRY
Here are some simple instructions to keep your lab opal jewelry looking great. These care instructions apply to all our inlay materials and accent gemstones including dinosaur bone, turquoise, opal, lapis, lab opal, chrysoprase and onyx.
First, never clean inlay jewelry in an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. Chemicals and heat may negatively affect the epoxy over a period of time. Also, avoid contact with household cleaners and solvents, as they may breakdown the epoxy as well. If your inlay jewelry is accented by diamonds or other faceted stones, simply brush the stones with a soft toothbrush and mild soap from the top and the bottom. Prolonged exposure to water or oils may weaken the bond between the stones and the epoxy used to hold them in the channel. Remove any tarnish with a polishing cloth and do not dip the jewelry in a tarnish removal liquid.
Second, wear your jewelry with care and common sense. Remove your jewelry before performing any activity that might damage the jewelry, such as exercising, yard work, swimming, dishwashing, etc. Do not wear your inlay ring on a finger adjacent to another ring. The rings will grind against each other and damage the silver and the inlay. Wearing them on the same finger is fine. When not wearing your jewelry, store your jewelry in a cloth bag or box where your other jewelry cannot ding or scratch it. Doing so will also prolong the life of your jewelry and extend the period you can go before needing to be refinished.
Finally, when the surface of the stones or the silver loses its luster, return the piece for refinishing. If you have an accident and break a stone, we can drill it out and replace it without a problem. We recommend returning Hileman Jewelry repairs directly to us. Most jewelers are not experienced with inlay methods and do not have stones to match the ones in your jewelry.
OUR PHOTOGRAPHY
We do all our own photography and go to great lengths to capture the true colors of our jewelry samples. We use 5000k daylight fluorescent bulbs in a light tent to minimize reflections and bring out the sparkle in the gemstones. The colors are not altered and are the true colors of the stones under the optimal lighting of the light tent. The colors you see on your computer screen may vary based on the settings of your monitor or the browser you are using. Once you receive your new jewelry you will notice the stones may look different under fluorescent light versus daylight or under incandescent light. This is normal and expected as the varying wavelengths of the light may cause some colors to appear slightly different to your eye.
The jewelry in the photos is rarely shown to scale on your computer monitor or mobile device. Please read the item description for dimensions of the jewelry to determine the actual size of the jewelry. If you are unsure of the scale or size of the item or if you uncertain of any detail, please ask for additional photos of the item before purchasing and we will provide them if possible.
